What is Shazam?

Shazam is an app that you can use via iOS, Android, or even via Snapchat. You can install it via the App Store or Play Store.

What does it do?

It listens to music and identifies which song and artist are playing.

Why is that important?

Radio DJs and other important people use Shazam charts to decide which music to play. The more times that a song is searched on Shazam, the more likely they are to give the song a spin on radio, or add it to online playlists. This increases the reach of the song and allows more people to hear it. It also increases its national chart ranking in some countries, such as in the USA where radio play counts towards the Hot 100.
